Genetic heritage that’s decades in the making.
Harmony lives and breathes the importance of Wagyu genetics every day.
We stake our business on the premium quality of our products because our animals are bred for the plate. We use the finest Wagyu genetics and are committed to continually enhancing the breed.
Investing in our own breeding programs
We run our own breeding programs – from F1 to fullblood – through IVF and AI. We invest in elite Wagyu bulls and provide superior genetics back down the line to our supply chain cow / calf producers.
Heavily investing in building our own fullblood and commercial Wagyu herd will help ensure our products are recognised for their provenance, relied on for their consistency and sought after for their taste.
Growing our own fullblood herd
Our goal is to have one of the leading Wagyu herds in the world outside of Japan. We’re focused on using proven sires to guarantee quality carcase traits. DNA testing has found that our fullblood calves are at the very top of the Wagyu herd globally outside of Japan.
The progress we’re making shows that we can make a genuine contribution to Wagyu genetics. And that’s not only good for the provenance of our meat, but the future of our industry too.
The history of Wagyu in Australia
In 1997, the Japanese government declared the Wagyu breed a living national treasure, effectively banning the export of live Wagyu genetics.
In the decade prior, a window of opportunity became available to secure these prized Wagyu genetics outside of Japan. However, only 221 animals were exported – all to the USA. These genetics also made their way to Australia and today, any Australian fullblood Wagyu animal’s lineage can be traced back to those exported animals.
Harmony’s fullblood Wagyu program is building on this heritage to develop an elite breeding nucleus.
