Minimising our impact on the environment

Taking real and meaningful steps to minimise our impact on the environment is core to how we do business here at Harmony. At our West Beef property in Western Australia’s central wheatbelt region, Garry Robinson and the team are now in the second year of a five-year project to regenerate salinity-affected land.

Salinity is a major challenge facing WA’s farming sector, particularly in the wheatbelt. Regenerating the land with native trees and bushes is the best way to combat it and reduce the saline water table – which, in time, will return the affected area to productive grazing land.

In recent weeks, we’ve planted another 18,000 natives – including saltbush atriplex sp., acacia acuminata and a variety of eucalyptus and melaleuca species – across 25 hectares. This adds to last year’s now well-established plantings, and will also benefit our neighbours and establish important biodiversity and wildlife corridors.

A big thank you to Chatfield’s Tree Nursery and Woodland Tree Services for supporting us to bring this project to life.
