Emerging technology to support data-driven decisions
Agriculture may be one of the world’s oldest industries, but we’ve long embraced innovation and emerging technologies to improve efficiencies, productivity and yield.
New advancements in data analytics, AI, robotics and machine learning are no exception. Not just because we need to continually improve, but it aids decision making and leads to stronger performance.
One of the ways we’re working towards being more data-driven here at Harmony is with Ag-Tech start-up MEQ, and their MEQ Probe technology.
We’re using existing ultrasound hardware – and drawing on AI and machine learning – to predict well before processing when Wagyu cattle will reach their maximum marble potential.
When this tool is fully operational, it will revolutionise how we do business. It will enable decisions on the optimal processing window, balancing cost of gain against marble score values. This will drive efficiencies in our business, maximise resources, and minimise environmental impact – all of which also supports the sustainability of the feedlot sector.
This photo of the tool in action was taken at our Dimboola Feedlot recently. While there’s still more to do, we’re excited about what this could mean not only for our business, but the sector more broadly.
